Despite the fact that most people on the Internet consider Joyce Meyer to be one of the “prosperity gospel” preachers, I don’t see her in quite the same light. While I do see how some might consider her to be part of the prosperity gospel group, I also note that she does things differently. For one, she doesn’t tell you that if you do what she says, pray for all the good things, and send all the money, you’ll have a prosperous life, a good life, and never have bad things happen to you. She acknowledges that bad things happen. She also, unlike many of the prosperity gospel group, gives you the actual Scripture references. She doesn’t just say the Bible says or Scripture says, spout something off, and never tell you where it said it.

Which brings me to The Joy of an Uncluttered Life – because as always, Mrs. Meyer doesn’t mince her words. In this 100 day devotional, Mrs. Meyer tells you exactly what the Bible says, tells you what it means, and tells you how to help yourself get out of your cluttered life – emotionally, spiritually, financially, and physically.

This book tackles subjects such as choosing friends wisely, taming our tongues, making commitments to get out of debt, procrastination, and even touches on decluttering our homes. Mrs. Meyer speaks to doing the hard things, the things that require discipline, to make our lives better. Yes, she tells us to pray. Yes, she tells us to give generously of our money. But she doesn’t specify where to give that money and she backs it up with Scripture.

I found this book to be insightful, easy to read, and in some places, convicting. I highly recommend this book and gave it 5 stars.
