I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book. I’d read the description, but still didn’t know exactly what to expect. Violet City is an alien invasion story and a romance all in one. You’d think the combination wouldn’t work, but it does, it really does. I loved the characters – well, the ones you’re supposed to anyway. Penelope is sarcastic and I love it. She has such an attitude even though she’s scared to death. Rowan is also quite funny. His manner of speech is hilarious to see, especially when he says certain things. He’s also not quite as keen on what’s happening as one might think. The book is a quick read and keeps you interested and entertained the entire time. If you like alien invasion stories or quirky romances, this is the book for you.

But to a child in the middle grade reading level, it could be quite scary. I actually found the book to be quite creepy. Were the things in it believable? Probably not. At least not if you’re someone who watches a lot of shows like A Haunting, Haunted Hospitals, or Paranormal 911. But not everything needs to be realistic to be scary. If it did, we wouldn’t have horror films, now would we? I found the story to […]

Destiny’s a Witch is a cute, cozy, kitschy mystery involving a town full of witches, warlocks, and humans. Throw in a bit of romance and you have this adorable story. This is what a cute, cozy mystery should be. I chose to read this book based on two things – the cute cover and the title. I figured the book would be cute and I wasn’t disappointed in the least. For someone who normally reads books that are either sexually charged, horror, fantasy, or YA, this was a refreshing change from the normal. Lucy May did an excellent job of spinning a tale of murder, romance, and fun without all the cursing and dark themes that normally pervade the books I read. Moira is a sweet, lovable woman who might have made a magical mistake in the past – one that it seems she can’t let go of as she […]
