They Lie Here is an interesting mystery/thriller that also has some elements of science fiction… all centered around a woman trying to find out what happened to a musician from the 1980s who has disappeared. Kat Green is a former teen pop star who is trying to escape her past while also trying to “help” other former celebrities come out of hiding by finding them. Ok, anyone who knows me knows that I love things that have to do with the Grim Reaper. I mean, I even have a Grim Reaper based Pathfinder 2 character (a sorceress named Reaper who casts Necromancy spells, wears a black robe, carries a scythe, and has a raven for a familiar). Ok, I know, it’s another romance novel. But here’s the thing – romance novels get me out of reading slumps and it’s not just a romance novel. This is a rockstar romance novel. Now, I know you probably can’t tell from the looks of my blog, but I love rock music and listen to everything from hair metal to death metal, along with some other assorted types of music. The Sheikh’s Tempting Na..

Leslie North is a favorite of mine for when I need a quick read to settle my mind. The Sheikh’s Tempting Nanny was no exception to this rule. Sarah and Imran are both likable characters that make you want to know what they’re going to do next. Jamila and Hasan are hilarious, as are Ziad and Maryam. I found myself loving all of the characters in this book. This book is paced quickly, has a little bit of steam but not too much, and has a fun storyline. It is perfect for when you need a quick read to take a break from heavier types of books – textbooks, horror, mystery, or fantasy. I loved this book and can’t wait to read the other two in the series.

Let me start by saying I don’t normally go for romance books – as in, if the primary genre is romance, I tend to stay away. But… I admit, coming from a military family and having military friends, I am a sucker for military/ex-military books, so I gave this one a shot. I’m so glad I did. Allow me to say, I finished this book in about six hours or so, taking a couple of breaks. It’s a short, easy read, but it doesn’t lack for substance. There was a perfect balance between to romance and the suspense. Both elements were necessary to keep the story moving, and Leslie North did an amazing job with this. I loved the characters as well.
