Everyday Monsters is a cute, OK read, in my opinion. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible either. Allow me to explain: I’m going to deviate from the way I’ve done the last few reviews because, well, there’s a lot going on. For one, there are just too many characters that end up being central to the story to sit here and try to tell you a bit about each one and whether or not I liked them. I’m not used to seeing so many characters that are not only central to the story, but are the main featured character when a scene changes. CW: Pregnancy, Pregnancy Termination, Depression Happy Book Birthday to The Anti-Relationship Year!!! Last year, I read and reviewed The Anti-Virginity Pact (TAVP) and wondered then if we would ever see a book with any of the characters from that book again. Well, this year, Katie Wismer has brought us a sequel – that can be read as a standalone. The Anti-Relationship Year (TARY) focuses on Johanna, who goes by Jo. The book bounces back and forth between her freshman and senior years of college, giving us a glimpse of what happens to her during her freshman year that influences how she behaves in her senior year. Character wise, I love Johanna – I loved her in TAVP, and I love her just as much in TARY. She goes through so much, but she does what is necessary to help herself get better. I admit, I’m not usually one for romance or adult fiction. I’m more of a mystery, thriller, horror, and YA person. But this book seemed like it was going to be too cute to pass up. I was right. Christmas is my second favorite holiday after Halloween. It should be – my birthday is Christmas Eve. So I know how important it is to be surrounded by loved ones for Christmas. So I can see why it is that Eloise is so disappointed when it seems that Christmas might not include her twin sister. The writing style in this book might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Mind you, the book is set in the UK, so UK terms are used and might confuse some readers from other countries. The writing style itself kind of mish-mashes the story lines together. But it works. I admit, I was kind of scratching my head because on Goodreads, this book is listed as “erotica” and it really isn’t. It’s pretty much a romance book with some sex thrown in. I’ve read far more erotic and dirty books from authors like Linda Lael Miller, trust me. This was tame compared to her books. Then I saw on NetGalley that the book’s genre was actually New Adult and Romance, which made a lot more sense to me. The story is interesting and the book is a quick read at 132 pages on a Kindle. This was the 3rd book in a series, but you honestly don’t need to read the first two books to be able to follow along. You’d think you’d need to, but you really don’t. Bad Night Stand by Elise Farbe..

I’m not one much for the romance genre, even though it seems like I have quite a few in my NetGalley queue. But Bad Night Stand called to me because it seemed like it would be right up my alley. I wasn’t wrong. I loved it. And in all honesty, I’m sincerely hoping that the author puts more of her books on NetGalley because I’m dying to read them all! Abby and Jordan are great main characters. The development is great, even if you have to wait a bit to find out what makes them tick. You’ll probably hate Abby’s dad, which isn’t a surprise, but you’ll love Abby and Jordan. You’ll also come to love Seraphina, Bec, and Heather. And we can’t forget Hunter – he’s an absolute doll and you’ll love him as soon as he pops up in the book.
