Today I’m pleased to bring you an interview with D. B. Rook, author of Callus & Crow. This interview is part of my stop on the blog tour organized by Escapist Book Co. Thank you for allowing me to participate, and thank you to D. B. Rook for answering my questions. Do you read reviews of your books? If so, how do you handle bad or good reviews? I can’t help myself, I do read all reviews, or at least I do at the moment as I’m so new to the community. I believe all reviews have benefits, even if they are simply there to toughen your skin! What I will say is that any poor reviews I have read so far have not been based on things I expected. I guess there’s a lesson in there somewhere about believing in yourself! What do you think is the most unethical practice […]

Thank you for allowing me to participate, and thank you to N. C. Scrimgeour for answering my questions. Do you read reviews of your books? If so, how do you handle bad or good reviews? I do, even though I know I shouldn’t! Good reviews always put a smile on my face, and even the morecritical ones can be helpful in terms of self-reflection. There are always a couple that get under your skin, but I know as a reader I don’t enjoy every book either, so I try to just move on quickly and not let it botherme. At the end of the day, whether review is positive or negative, someone has taken the time andconsideration to engage […]

Today I have an interview with Benjamin Aeveryn, author of Salt in the Wound. This post is part of the Escapist Book Co’s blog tour for Salt in the Wound. Thank you for allowing me to participate, and a big thank you to Benjamin Aeveryn for answering my questions! Interview What is the best way you’ve found to market your books? I’m still pretty new to publishing, so I don’t have a whole lot of experience to draw from. That said, the three big things for me have been cover, pitch, and newsletter. Put in the time and money toget an eye-catching cover suitable for your genre. File down your back cover copy to a 1-2sentence pitch that catches people’s attention—I actually have a small selection and I alternatebetween them to get a feel for what works best. Set up a newsletter so you have somewhere todirect your readers once they’ve […]

The Forbidden Realms by H. C. Newell

The Forbidden Realms by H. C. ..

Our review for today is for H. C. Newell’s The Forbidden Realms. This is book 2 in the Fallen Light series. The front matter of the book actually says this book is to be read after book 1, Curse of the Fallen. Ok, first, you’ll need to read the trigger warnings for this book. If you have issues with grief, gore, horror, etc., then I can tell you now, this book will not be for you… if Curse of the Fallen wasn’t for you, this one won’t be either. A quick note about Curse of the Fallen – it took me two tries to actually read it. Not because it wasn’t a good book, it was a “right book, wrong time” situation, which I knew from the beginning when I was having trouble with it. The book was good, my brain just didn’t want to focus on it. I read […]

CW: Sexual Activity, Some Non-Consensual/Semi-Consensual Sex, Language, Kidnapping, Dark Themes, Polyamory, Violence, Murder If you’re looking for a Peter Pan retelling that is full of angst and is spicy, I’d recommend picking up The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe. Holy cow… In all honesty, I couldn’t tell you what attracted me to The Never King other than the cover. I saw it on KindleUnlimited and borrowed it because it looked cool. I definitely wasn’t expecting a spicy, angsty retelling of Peter Pan. But let me tell you, I couldn’t put the book down after I started reading it! I literally read all 192 pages in one afternoon, on my phone. Yes, on my phone. I have to say, I love the characters in this book. I adore the twins – Bash and Kas, I love Vane, I love Peter Pan, and I adore Winnie. Vane is such an interesting […]
