CW: Mental Illness, OCD, Anxiety I’m going to say it – I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I’m not usually a fan of middle grade books, but I did enjoy this one. I like the way it portrays mental illnesses as nothing to be ashamed of. That someone with mental illness, whether it be OCD, anxiety, depression, or other mental illnesses can do the things they want and the things that make them happy. So often I read about mental illness in books and the person is defined by it. While Shannon’s OCD and anxiety feature in the book, they’re not who she is. I loved Shannon. I also loved Micah and Grandma Ruby. I admit, there weren’t any characters in this book I didn’t like, which is a rarity. The writing was great, the book moves along at a good pace, and the plot […]

Today’s featured review is for Lo & Behold by Wendy Mass. This review is part of the TBR & Beyond Tours blog tour for Lo & Behold. Thank you to TBR & Beyond Tours for allowing me to be a part of this tour. When I decided to review this book, it was quite out of character for me. For one, I’m not a big fan of reading Middle Grade fiction. For another, I’m not a big lover of graphic novels. But when I read the description of Lo & Behold, I couldn’t help but feel like I should give it a try. I’m glad I did. This graphic novel made me think. You never know what someone else is going through or what they’ve been through. Whether it is having to move across the country for a few months, losing friends, or losing a loved one, you just don’t […]

Today I am bringing you a review of A Hunger of Thorns by Lili Wilkinson. This review is part of the TBR & Beyond Tours blog tour. Thank you to Lili Wilkinson and TBR & Beyond Tours for allowing me to be a part of this tour. CW: graphic depictions of gore, violence, death Do you ever pick up a book thinking it’s going to be amazing and then realize part way through that the book is good, but not as amazing as you’d thought it would be? That’s kind of what I got with A Hunger of Thorns. Let me explain… When I first started looking at A Hunger of Thorns, I was pulled in by the description and by the cover. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. I also love the title. But when I started reading the book it just wasn’t quite the book I thought it was […]

I’m a sucker for thrillers and if it’s a YA thriller, then all the better. Don’t ask me why I like YA so much better than adult books, but I do. I mean, yes, I read adult books, but I have a strong preference for YA over adult books. So when I saw this come up as one of the blog tours, I knew I had to sign up. Now if you know me, you know that I’m not usually a fan of anything that involves royalty, but the description of the book sounded so good, I had to read it. I’m so glad I did. Characters I’m going to be honest, there’s a ton of characters in this book and it can be tough to get a feel for all of them – especially since we don’t see a lot of all of them. So if I missed a […]

Characters There are six main characters we’re going to focus on here – Red, Maddy, Oliver, Simon, Arthur, and […]
