For those who don’t know, I’m a vegetarian. I tend to eat quite a bit of vegan food because if it’s vegan, then I know I can eat it. I’m always looking for good substitutes for some of my old favorite dishes – like roast beef and pepperoni pizza. Finding The Herbivorous Butcher Cookbook gives me a chance to find those dishes and make them myself without paying an arm and a leg for a premade version. This cookbook has some amazing, mouthwatering recipes in it. Some of the options include pepperoni, porterhouse steaks, a beef roast, spam, chicken cutlets, and more – all vegan. This cookbook doesn’t just show you how to make the meat substitutes though. Oh no, this cookbook also tells you what things you can do with them as well! Recipes like fried chicken sandwiches and philly cheesesteak sandwiches – again, all vegan. My favorites out […]

If you’ve read my blog for any length of time, you know that I absolutely LOVE Disney’s Twisted Tales. I just love how they take a beloved story and turn it around, giving it a new life. So when I saw What Once Was Mine on NetGalley, I knew I had to request it. I just wish it had met my expectations. What Once Was Mine Review This is the first time I haven’t particularly cared for one of the Twisted Tales books. I’ve loved every other book I’ve read from the series and I own about half of the series. But for some reason this one just didn’t give me the same happy feeling I had with the other ones. I am thinking that the reason for this is that What Once Was Mine has a different format to how the story is laid out. Instead of just starting […]

Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Suspected Child Abuse, Animal Cruelty, Animal Death, Mental Illness, Mental Health Issues, Murder I’ve been working toward Amazon’s Kindle Epic Summer Challenge and one of the achievements was to complete an Amazon Original Story recommended by their editors. I’d heard about The Perfect Child on TikTok, so when I saw it on the list of qualifying books, I decided to give it a read. Holy crap. This book seriously gives me Orphan vibes. Granted, in this case our child in need of adoption isn’t an adult masquerading as a child, but still. The level of viciousness and abject hatred the child, Janie, shows in this book is nothing short of chilling. I found myself squirming in horror at some of the things that happen in the book – and not just things that Janie does, but other characters as well. The Perfect Child is a combination […]

The Vow by Debbie Howells

The Vow by Debbie Howells

After a few false starts, I finally got around to actually reading The Vow by Debbie Howells. When I say I devoured the book, I’m not kidding. I actually stayed up until almost 5:30AM to finish the book. That’s how engrossed in the story I was. I won’t lie, the book starts out a little bit on the slow side. The “action” starts right away – the groom-to-be disappears, but after that it just takes a bit for the book to get going. You just have to hang on to get there because once you do… BOOM. It’s way faster paced and it’s way more intriguing. You’ll get several points of view in this book – Amy, the bride-to-be, Jess – Amy’s daughter, Fiona – a character you’ll meet later, and then there are the flashbacks to 1996 – where you’re never quite sure who is doing the talking, but […]

All the Dark Places by Terri Parlato

All the Dark Places by Terri P..

I recently was given the opportunity by Kensington Publishing Corporation, via NetGalley, to read the debut thriller from Terri Parlato, All the Dark Places. I have to say, this debut novel is amazing. First, we have our characters. They’re well thought out, well planned, and very well written. Do we get all of the info about each of our characters right away? No. But that actually adds to the intrigue of the book. Something bad happened to Molly as a child. While it’ll take a while for you to find out what that is, and you’ll want to know, it doesn’t detract from the story to find out when you do. No matter what it is, every character with a backstory you need to know will have that backstory told, when the time is right. This book doesn’t beat around the bush. It gets right into the action. That is […]
