Today I’m bringing you a review of a short, but very cool middle young adult fantasy – Sunbolt by Intisar Khanani. Sunbolt is the first book in The Sunbolt Chronicles and it came in 3rd in the 2022 BBNYA. Congrats! I loved that Sunbolt is a short read. So many of the fantasy novels I read are 300-500 pages long and just seem to take so long for me to read that I end up not wanting to read them. So the fact that this one is only 152 pages is a huge plus in my opinion. I also loved the writing in Sunbolt. It wasn’t overly flowery, it wasn’t overly long on the narration. It gave you the information you needed, when you needed it. You won’t have to wade through two pages of unnecessary descriptions to read this book. It’s simple, easy to follow, and just plain awesome. […]

Today we have a review for Minerva Keen’s Detective Club by James Patterson & Keir Graff. This review is brought to you in conjunction with TBR & Beyond Tours. Thank you for allowing me to participate in this tour. Ok, we’ve established that I’m not the biggest fan of middle grade books, although I have read quite a few and the ones I’ve read have been very good. But I’m a huge fan of James Patterson, so my reading Minerva Keen’s Detective Club seemed like a no-brainer… with the exception of the fact that I’m not a big fan of James Patterson having co-authors. For some reason, the only books I’ve been able to read that he’s had a co-author for were The President is Missing and The President’s Daughter, which he co-wrote with Bill Clinton. Other co-written books have just fell flat for me. But this one? Oh, this […]

Today I am bringing you a review of Deya Muniz’s new graphic novel The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. This review is brought to you in conjunction with TBR & Beyond Tours. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this tour. The first thing you need to know about The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich? That it’s absolutely adorable. Well, the story is. The artwork is beautiful, but the story is just adorable. I love Cam – she’s strong, independent, but is also lonely and bored due to the lifestyle she’s forced to lead. So when opportunity presents itself, she does what she can to make her life less miserable and falls in love in the process. I’m also quite partial to Brie… she’s sweet, kind, loving, and funny. I love that she’s an activist because she hates injustice… And might I say, I’m overly […]

Today’s featured review is for Lo & Behold by Wendy Mass. This review is part of the TBR & Beyond Tours blog tour for Lo & Behold. Thank you to TBR & Beyond Tours for allowing me to be a part of this tour. When I decided to review this book, it was quite out of character for me. For one, I’m not a big fan of reading Middle Grade fiction. For another, I’m not a big lover of graphic novels. But when I read the description of Lo & Behold, I couldn’t help but feel like I should give it a try. I’m glad I did. This graphic novel made me think. You never know what someone else is going through or what they’ve been through. Whether it is having to move across the country for a few months, losing friends, or losing a loved one, you just don’t […]

Today I have a BBNYA 2022 Finalist Review for Inheriting Her Ghosts by S.H. Cooper. Inheriting Her Ghosts came in 4th for BBNYA 2022! Congrats! The Book The Review If there’s one thing we know about me, it is that I love horror novels. While I don’t review a ton of them here on Charli’s Book Box, I love to read them. So of course, I was thrilled to be selected to review Inheriting Her Ghosts by S.H. Cooper. I’ll be honest, I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this one but I’ll say this, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ll start this off by saying if you’re not a fan of slow-burn horror novels, this one may not be for you. But I’d still recommend giving it a chance because you never know. Inheriting Her Ghosts focuses on Eudora Fellowes and her struggle with her newly […]
