I have to say, I adored Maxine. I loved how irreverent she could be and the way that you could tell that she cared deeply for Frances and Lena.
I was also very fond of Frances and of Oliver. I think they make an adorable couple, even if they might not be quite sure exactly what they are to each other.
I had a difficult time putting this book down to do things I needed to do around the house. While the book might seem to start off slow to some people, trust me, once it picks up, it zooms by. You won’t know what hit you. I find it difficult to talk about the book without giving anything away but I have to address one plot point that I loved.
I loved that Frances’s magic was on the fritz. I loved that her magic wasn’t perfect, that it didn’t always work the way it was supposed to. So many stories involving witches and/or magic end up with the magic-user’s magic always being perfect and working precisely as it should that it can make for a very boring story. But Frances having her magic not work properly made this story all the more interesting.
I give this one a solid 4 stars. I highly recommend it. I’m planning to re-read it again very soon.
